How to become a Surveyor?

A Chartered Accountant can acquire License to Act as Surveyors ad Loss Assessors as per Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors (Licensing, Professional Requirements and Code of Conduct) Regulations, 2000. Areas in which a Chartered Accountant can act as a Surveyor & Loss Assessor and undergo training are:

• Fire Insurance
• Marine Insurance
• Miscellaneous Insurance
• LOP Insurance

For this purpose, he has to fulfill the following requirements:

• Enroll as a trainee surveyor & loss assessor under Category A or B Surveyor (A Statewise list of the Surveyors and Loss Assessors is available on the website of the IRDA at www.irdaindia.org.
• Submit enrolment form (Form III) to surveyor Licensing Department, IDRA, Hyderabad within a fortnight of enrolment
• Submit quarterly report of IRDA in Form IV (Forms are available on the web site of IRDA www.irdaindia.org) regarding work done during the training.
• After one year of training, appear for Insurance Surveyors Examination conducted by Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai.

The timing of the training will depend upon the mutual convenience of the surveyor under whom training is to be undergo.

The council has decided to permit Chartered Accountants in practice to undergo the above training and the period spent by them in undergoing the training shall not affect their main occupation I.e. practice of the profession of accountancy, including for the purpose of training Articles Clerks. The Articled clerks undergoing training with such members shall be sent for training under another Chartered Accountant in practice, under the Secondment Scheme of the Institute, so that their training was not affected.
